The term Bucket List was made famous thanks to the 2007 film Dreams starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. In this movie two older gentlemen, Carter Chambers and Edward Cole, live in a hospital for terminal lung cancer patients. Through sharing their hospital room, they become friends. Edward finds Carter’s “bucket list” or “things to do before he kicks the bucket”. Edward then encourages Carter to realize his dreams by financing the trip for both of them.
I do have a big list of things I would like to do, and to be honest, the list continually changes as I keep adding new adventures. However, there are things that I will never put on my list. Participating in a Polar Plunge will never make the list, be it here in Minnesota or anywhere else in the world. Cold weather is not my thing; I am just learning to cope with the cold living here. After all, I am from Chile.
So, what is a Polar plunge you may ask? Well, the concept is easily defined by the Polar Plunge organization as “the opportunity to jump into frigid Minnesota waters in the middle of the winter”. Are you still with me? Because just writing the definition has frozen my brain.
Many people participate in this frozen event all around the state. I actually went last year to support co-workers from my school and take photos. (I thought I would clarify that, so you didn’t get the crazy idea that I jumped into a frigid lake). Nevertheless, doing this very peculiar activity is for a great cause. Participants raise a minimum of $75 to participate, and all funds raised go towards programming and events for more than 8,100 athletes at the Special Olympics programs in Minnesota.
If you would like to support this honorable cause and have a thrilling experience, please feel free to visit Polar Plunge Minnesota. As for me, I will be glad to support the cause by supporting friends. You won’t see me taking a dip into one of Minnesota’s frozen lakes anytime soon!

This looks like so much fun, I would defiantly go for it (and regret it the minute I hit the water 😀). Thanks for sharing!

Haha, this is definitely not on my bucket list either–I hate cold! Barely surviving this polar vortex in Atlanta…

Hahah Yes that is a hard no for me on Polar Plunges as well. I volunteered at one once (ALSO never actually touched the water) and I was so cold my dad had to come get me because I couldnt drive home hahah Not my definition of fun!

Wow! I had no idea this event existed. I don’t think I would be able to do that either. But like you, I support the cause in other ways!
